3.   YOUR NATURALIST GUIDES

You will enjoy top services from one of a small team of carefully selected guides that serve our Active Galapagos cruises.  Our guides are chosen for their passion and for their in-depth knowledge of Galapagos and conservation.  They have a canny knack for conveying this passion to their guests and should be able to handle your most challenging questions.

The Samba's principle guide is Juan Manuel Salcedo.   We believe that Juan is at the vanguard of a new generation of naturalist guides in Galapagos - he is promoting a new way to seeing/knowing the islands (see:  The Samba Way).  Juan grew up in Galapagos.  He is a father of two young girls - his family lives in the highlands of Santa Cruz island. His wife's family has also been living in Galapagos for many years and are active members of the community.  Juan carried out most of his studies in Ecuador, but also spent some time in California obtaining a "skipper's" certificate.  He is personally in charge of selecting and training the colleagues with whom he shares the CNH Tours Active Galapagos trips.

4.   ITINERARIES

SOUTH EAST:   Island diversity

# islands visited:  10

The Southeast itinerary will have you visit a great diversity of islands, from the tiny South Plaza to the "brought-back-from-the-brink" Española island, once overrun by goats and with only a handful of giant tortoises remaining.   See the red and green iguanas, the rare hybrid land/marine iguanas, snorkel at Devil's Crown and watch penguins at the iconic Bartolome Island.  Enjoy the best beaches in the islands - and for shark lovers - this itinerary gives you more opportunities for close observations

NORTH WEST:   Born of fire

# islands visited:  5

This itinerary takes you to the western shores of the archipelago, and the most geologically active.   Volcanos frequently erupt here - and most of the land consists of wide expanses of sterile lava fields interspersed with small islands of life.   Waters are more nutrient rich and cooler - making for a richer diversity of marine life.  The flightless cormorant survives here, but in small numbers.

The traditional equatorial line crossing celebration on the Samba.   Can you spot Poseidon, Charles Darwin, the tortoise, the penguin, the mermaid...

news

Heather,

We returned home Friday from our trip that was arranged through your company.

Everything was wonderful, an experience of a lifetime. From the time we stepped off the plane in Quito, everything was perfect. Our guide in Quito was excellent, and we enjoyed our hotel and the city tour. From the minute  we arrived in Galápagos and was met by our guide Jimmie, things got even better. We loved the Samba. The crew was amazing, especially Captain Jose. Enough cannot be said about Jimmie, he was just exceptional. Our guide in Puerto Ayora, Sandi was excellent as well, very nice and extremely knowledgeable.

Our travel mates were all very nice people that were similar in age and interests. Friendships were made.

I especially want to thank you for accommodating our last minute request for lodging closer to the airport, on our return to Quito. Staying next to the airport made our early morning departure much easier.
